I would have thought that that would have certainly included that!THX1138 wrote:I might have a thing for Emily, just a little bit of a thing, nothing serious.i_heart_bones wrote:Im crushing on TJ Thyne...RM

And that's true - I should clarify that we speficifically don't like women to describe anything about us as little (also cute and small are right out, although cute is acceptable when referring to my ass.) So yes, that is something I have said, then again I was using the rhetorical tool known as meiosis, which uses deliberate understatement to make a point. Sort of like saying the battle of Cold Harbor was a minor skirmish that didn't turn out the way Grant would have liked. I was playing off the fact that it's pretty much accepted I have a rather deep affection for Emily, so by saying I might have a little thing I was in fact pointing out that I have a rather large thing. Huge in fact. Giant by normal standards.
The battle of Cold Harbor was one of the bloodiest and most lopsided of the civil war and is widely regarded as an unmitigated disaster for the north. Union forces under Grant and Meade suffered nearly 13,000 casualties to the Confederate's 2500, a loss ratio of five to one. Charges made across open ground resulted in whole companies disappearing in volleys of fire from Confederate muskets, and the wounded spent days laying in the no man's land between the trenches, baking in the sun and slowly dying of thirst.

And now you're employing the rhetorical tool auxesis - or is this simple hyperbole?? I don't really grasp the distinction between the two.

Re: Little Known Facts....
You know I don't really get the difference either, I mean hyperbole is exageration in general where as auxesis is a specific type of exageration that focuses on magnitude or severity - but it's still hyperbole. Right? I knew I should have paid better attention in rhetoric and composition.DBCrazy wrote:Ooh! I get it now!
