Profoundly deaf. He now has had gromets and lots of surgery, but gets really bad middle ear infections at the drop of a hat, has a purferated ear drum that they can't fix till he is 18, can't stand high pitched noises, finds it very hard to hear things, is slow in his speech and subsequently reading.
sucks for him.... but you said he lip reads? that must be a hullva lot more useful than sign language...

my mum used to teach at a deaf school and she said that while they start out slow most of them have pretty much caught up by the time they finish high school... i cannot imagine how hard to must be to learn to read when you can;t HEAR... *mind boggles*

I know a bit of Australian Sign Language, but I think it's different to American Sign Language....
yeah i think it is... and i know some of the british/english one, but that is also different...

And I know our three different versions of English differ greatly, American and australian more so than British and Australian but you would think that they'd have a universal 'english' sign language so everyone could speak it. Laughing

I think there is a universal alphabet now isn't there?
i believe there is... not that i know it, or how to use it, or how one would going about learning it or using it...

Learn the letters and spell the words.

Most of my sign language ability lies in there as mine centres around my name, and various things to do with horses.
alphabet... and please, thank you, and various swear words... the kids at my mums school took immense pleasure in teaching me those...
