Camping. . . .
**~~Thought of this one on my way own from Florida, needed something to do while riding in the car. With two toddlers. Not sure where I am going with this so enjoy.**~~
“Daddy my seat hurts,” Seeley Booth glanced at his son who was strapped into his car seat in the back of his SUV. His blue eyes looked back at him, obviously showing that he was not comfortable and that a definite fit was on its way. “I want to get out, can’t we stop somewhere?” he said adding to first statement.
Sighing Booth stretched the hand that had been gripped to the steering wheel for the past six hours. “We will soon buddy,” said Booth meeting his sons eyes in the rear view mirror. “Just a little longer and we will stop to get lunch.” Nodding his head Parker went back to staring out his window at the cow pastures and the wooded areas that surrounded them.
They had long left the city, and his daddy was not going to turn round for his spider man toy that he left on his bed.
“But he’ll be lonely daddy,” Parker cried from the back seat when he realized he didn’t get it. That worked on mommy why not try it on daddy.
Booth took a deep breath and looked over at the woman sitting in the passenger seat. She was offering no help in the situation. She only grinned softly and turned her head to stare out the window. She knew the fight that was ahead.
“Parker, I told you to check your room for anything you may have forgotten, and what did you say?”
“I told you I looked. . . .but daddy!” said Parker in one last ditch effort.
“I’m sorry buddy we are already more than an hour down the road. It’s too late to turn back.” Now they were definitely too far for him to get his spider man toy.
“Daddy,” said Parker once more. “I’m tired of sitting can’t we stop. . . .please?” he continued drawing out the please.
“C’mon Booth, he’s tired and you are to, I can see it in your face.” He knew she was right, he was pretty sure his rear was going to come sliding right off once they stopped and he got out. “Alright, Parker next exit we come to we’re going to get out to stretch our legs.”
Parker was glad his dad decided to bring her along. She usually talked him into whatever he wanted. “Ok doctor Bones,” He said smiling.
Booth looked over at his partner, lowering his voice so Parker wouldn’t hear him. “You know he only does that because you give into him.”
“I do not,” she replied. Who wouldn’t give into to the brown eyed curly topped little boy? He was a charmer like his father.

Other than the fact that Parker's eyes are brown and not blue, that was very cute. I can't wait to see where it leads.

Re: Camping. . . .
She never realized how comforting it was getting out of the city, it helped put everything into perspective. Her views on marriage and relationships in general were always never to get into one because they never worked out. Yet now, she looked over at Booth, things were different. No matter what she said against the matter he always had something that would have her thinking about it.
“Okay Parker where do you wanna eat?” Silently Booth prayed to himself his son didn’t ask for McDonalds. A man could only eat so many chicken nuggets.
“I want whatever Bones wants,” Booth looked in his rear view mirror at his son who was looking adoringly at the back of his partners head. Brennan looked around the seat at Parker. His eyes lit up at the sight of her.
“Whatever you want Parker is good enough for me.” Booth knew it was coming he flexed his fingers across the steering wheel, drumming his fingers across the top.
Parker met his father’s gaze in the mirror. “I want to eat somewhere grown up.” Said Parker.
“Like where,” Booth asked.
Parker nibbled on his bottom lip, thinking. What did girls like? He knew Drew always told mommy the only thing women ever ate was salad. He couldn’t remember if he ever saw Bones eat salad. Who would want to eat rabbit food any way, but he had to think of his girlfriend.
“Like, a grown up restaurant.” Parker replied. He couldn’t think of any thing but he knew his dad would pick somewhere good. “You pick dad.”
Thankful he didn’t say mcdonalds Booth pulled off the first exit they came too and found a diner not to far into town.
“Kiwi’s Kitchen.” The over head sign read. What kind of person would name their restaurant after a fruit? They parked and Booth slid out. He was right, as soon as he got out the car his legs felt as if they were going to buckle right beneath him. He stretched reaching his hands towards the sky.
Brennan, who had also gotten out stretched clasping her hands together over her head and reached for the sky, also yawned as fatigue from the long car ride was setting in. Booth couldn’t help but notice how her shirt had risen up just enough for him to see her midriff. The kahki shorts she wore made her legs look longer than he had ever seen.
“Dad!” called Parker from the back seat. He was eyeing his father who was eyeing his girlfriend. They were going to have to have a talk. He could see that now. Booth’s head snapped around towards his son. “I want out.” He said.
“Okay buddy.” Booth walked towards the back of the suv. As he approached Parker was unbuckleing himself not taking his eyes off his father. Booth pulled open the door and helped his son climb down.
“Ready to go in?”
“No, I need to talk to my dad alone.” Said Parker, both Booth and Brennan looked at each other.
“Ok son.” Parker took Booth by the hand and led him to the back of the truck. “What’s up?” Booth asked.
Parker shut his eyes for a second and the opened them again. Booth looked worried for a second until Parker began.
“I saw you dad.” He began.
“You saw me do what?” Booth stared down at his son. Parker looked around the jeep at Brennan who had gotten on her cell phone. He hooked his thumb backward.
“Dad we can’t chase the same woman.” Parker replied. “I am trying to win her over, and I don’t want to have to make you sad when she dates me and not you.” It was all he could do to not laugh. Booth fought hard for composer.
He smiled instead and ruffled his son’s hair. “Ok son,” he said. “Sorry.” He knew he was going to have to be a little more careful when he snuck peaks at his partner. He had no idea Parker was this head over heals but he knew he was going to have to inform his partner of this infatuation.

Re: Camping. . . .
Brennan watched the two as they approached her. Parker walked in front of his dad, he smiled when he saw her looking at him. He had a smile like his fathers, which made her wonder what her own children would look like.
“Sorry we took so long, we had to have a man to man. You know boy stuff.” Said Parker, he put his hand in Brennan’s and looked up at his father. “We’re ready now.” Parker said. Brennan looked at Booth confused.
“I’ll tell you later,” he mouthed. Booth let Parker lead the way into the diner. He also allowed his mini me to pick the seating. Of course Parker sat himself next to Brennan putting Booth on the opposite side in front of them.
Parker studied the menu placed in front of him. He wasn’t going to pick off the kids side, he wanted Bones to see him as an adult. Like his dad, true he wasn’t as big as he dad, and as strong as his dad but when he was older at least 13 things would change.
“Why don’t you go wash up before its time for us to eat,” Booth said. Parker slid out the booth. Before he passed Booth he stood on the tip of his toes to whisper into his father’s ear.
“Remember what I said dad,” Booth nodded that he understood. Brennan, still looking confused watched as Parker headed off to the bathroom.
“Okay,” Brennan began “what’s going on with your offspring?” The laughter that he had held in suddenly came rolling out. He couldn’t remember the last time he laughed so hard. Brennan smiled and slapped him across the hand. “Tell me, what’s going on?”
Booth straightened in his seat and looked behind him to make sure that Parker wasn’t coming up behind them. “Apparently,” said Booth. “My son has the idea in his head that you are his girlfriend, and that talk at the truck earlier was to tell me so. I am not to look at you or touch you because he doesn’t want me to upset when you choose him. . . .and not me.”
Her and Booth, together the thought of she and Parker put the smile on her face but the thought of she and Booth put the boil in her blood. She could feel the heat rising in her cheeks. “Bones,” Booth looked at her as she tried to hide her face. “Are you blushing?”
“No, no. So I’m his girlfriend am I?” she said changing the subject. “When did this happen?”
“I guess today which is probably why he called you to ask you on this camping trip that was supposed to be just us boys.” Which he definitely didn’t mind her coming along. In fact he was surprised she said yes.
“I. . .”
“Hear he comes.” Brennan said. Parker sat down next to Brennan.
“Sorry I took so long,” he said to Brennan. “what would you like to eat?” He asked her. “Order what you want I’m going to buy.”
Booth nearly choked on the water that he was drinking. He covered his smile with his hand. Brennan looked lost. This had never happened to her before. “Buddy you sure you have enough to cover it?” Parker pulled a fist full of money out of his pocket and handed it to his father. Booth unfolded the bills and counted them out in his hand.
You have four dollars and twenty-eight cents, how about you let me get it, save it for something really good.”
“Thanks dad,” Parker took the money and put it back in his pocket. He had to give it to his dad he was taking it pretty well.
After lunch was over Parker slid out of the booth and let Brennan out. He let her walk ahead and stopped his dad before he left the diner to. “Thanks for paying dad; I didn’t know how expensive having a girlfriend could be.”
“No problem.” Booth followed them out to the truck. He opened the door for Parker who climbed in the back and buckled himself in.
“How much longer till we get to the camp site?” Parker asked.
Booth checked his watch. “We will be there before seven at least.” Parker looked at the watch Drew gave him. The seven was a long way away from what they were on now.
They weren’t on the road too long before Parker was asleep. “My eight year old plans on marrying you Bones,” Booth smiled as he looked at her.
“He doesn’t he’s just infatuated it will pass, he’s too young to know what he wants.” She replied.
Booth took a chance sliding his hand across the consol and letting it rest on top of hers. Her eyes met his shocked. “I’m not, Bones.”

Re: Camping. . . .
Suddenly it was hard to swallow, he had long turned his attention back to the road but her eyes were stuck on him. Her eyes slowly scanned down to where his hand was and her mind was racing for the first time in a long time. She couldn’t think. What did he want? Why was it that as a scientist she was brilliant, a genius an IQ well above average even but as a woman, as a woman she didn’t know what to do with her emotions?
Her cell phone rang causing her to jump. She jerked her hand back and dug around in her bag to retrieve her cell phone. She glanced at the screen before answering it.
“H-hi Ange,” her words came out in spurts, Brennan shut her eyes and did her best to regain what was left of her composer.
“How is the trip so far?” Angela asked.
“Fine, we just stopped and had lunch and hopefully we will reach the camp site before too long.”
Angela knew she heard a catch in her friends voice, she sounded shaken. “Are you ok?” She asked.
Brennan mentally shook herself and sighed, “Yes I’m fine,” it’s just that her heart was running amuck in her chest. “we should arrive at the camp site at least by seven.”
“Well, if you and hot stuff decide to share the same sleeping bag,” There was no mistaking the smile in Angela’s voice.
“I don’t believe that will be happening,” Brennan replied. As if he knew what they were talking about Booth reached around and rubbed the back of her neck. “Angela I-I have to let you go.” She didn’t give Angela time to say goodbye she pressed the disconnect button.
“What did you mean by . . .you’re not?” Brennan asked.
“All in good time Bones,” said Booth. “All in good time,” She wanted to ask what that meant but was afraid of the answer. She knew how she felt about Booth but her heart was pounding in her chest because of the reality of it.
His hand was doing wonders on her skin, she was soon relaxed and sleepy at that. She found herself leaning into his touch. Slowly her eyes drifted close.
Booth loved touching her, Angela was right, this was going to be the hardest thing he had ever done.
“She knows how you feel Booth, she may not have to hear it but she knows how you feel. Even though she may not show it, this trip should give you enough time to. . . .ya know land the deal.” Angela said with a smile.
He smiled to himself as he drove, maybe this won’t be so hard. He only had Parker to worry about, he didn’t want to upset his son, he knew how it felt when you thought another guy was after your girlfriend.
He would simply have to find the time to explain to him that Bones was just too old for him. That he was just too young for her. Even as Booth thought about it, he was grateful that Parker wasn’t big enough to take a swing at him. That’s what he would do if it were the other way around. He’d do anything for his Bones.
After more than two hours of complete silence Parker was the first to wake up. “Dad, are we there yet?” He asked.
“In about twenty minutes we will be there.”
“Are we gonna fish?” Parker asked. “Does Bones like to fish?”
He never thought about it, but she may “If you want to fish we will, but I don’t know if Bones likes that kind of thing.”
“What kind of thing do I not like?” Brennan straightened in her seat. She stretched out and used her fingers to comb her hair down she knew it had to look bad. Booth couldn’t help but watch her. Eyes still droopy with sleep, a kind of glow to her skin it was like a glimpse of what waking up with her every morning with her would be like.
“Dad!” Parker yelled from the back seat. Booth’s eyes shot up as he glanced in the back seat to check on his son. Parkers blue eyes held anger as he looked at his father. “Remember what we talked about?”
He was wrong, his own son was going to make it difficult for him.

Re: Camping. . . .
With Parker in the back seat obviously mad at him and Bones looking at him every few seconds like he was going to jump her bones. Booth couldn’t wait to get to the camp site, to stretch his legs concentrate on putting up the tents would definitely take his mind off of Bones. He had to plan this quickly before he lost his nerve.
It was weird how he could trek through the most dangerous parts of any foreign land and shoot a man from hundreds of feet away, yet he couldn’t ask this woman out. Or get the nerve to kiss her.
To run his hands through her long dark hair, to feel how silky it was. To look into those eyes that could convey so much emotion and then nothing at all, but when she was mad those eyes lit up with fire. Would they do the same in the throes of passion?
To hear her say his name in the breathy way he imagined to. . .
“Booth!” Brennan shouted.
“Dad!” Parker yelled as Booth jerked the SUV out of the path of the truck heading directly to them. Booth struggled to pull the truck back onto the road as the sound of the trucks horn blared at him. He pulled off onto the shoulder. “Parker, son, you okay?”
Parker’s eyes were wide but he shook his head closing his eyes and breathing deeply. “I thought we were done for,” said Parker.
Booth turned to Bones. “Do you want me to drive?” was all she said.
“No,” Booth replied. He tried to smile. “I’m fine Bones. My mind just . . . drifted.” He said.
Brennan sighed and adjusted her seat belt. “I doubt very much your mind can drift but pay attention.”
He was more than elated when they pulled into the parking lot of the camp site. “We’re here!” Parker shouted in glee.
“Do you want any help setting up camp?” Brennan undid her seat belt as she gathered her pack from the floor.
He needed the distraction, he didn’t want to have Bones on the brain as he set up the tents. “No, I’ll get. Why don’t you let Parker show you around, he’ll enjoy that.”
Parker was more than happy to take the task. He pushed his door open and jumped out. “I’ll show you round doctor Bones.” He said taking her hand. “I don’t mind.” Wow a walk alone. . .with her! He couldn’t keep his excitement down.
Parker took Brennan by the hand and headed off to the river side. Booth grabbed all of the equipment from the back of the truck and headed to their site.
By the time he had gotten everything set up Parker and Brennan had returned. Parker was in midsentence about one of their camping trips. Where Booth fell in the water trying to un hook Parkers line from a tree branch. She could only imagine how he looked soaked from head to toe, shirt clinging to his well formed body.
“And then we. . .”
“Hey guys,” Booth interrupted.
“Hey dad,” Parker took Brennan by the hand again. “I took Bones all over, can we go swimming later?”
“If you run get the sleeping bags out I’ll think about it?” Parker ran off towards the truck.
Now it was her turn to stare, for her mind to wander off to a vacant place. She knew Booth was well built but. . . .this was too much for any woman to handle. He had his back to her checking the ropes on the tent. With every reach he made the sweat soaked fabric of his shirt inched its way further and further out of the waist band of his jeans.
His muscled arms glistened in the fading sun light. Brennan grabbed at the necklace that she wore and played with the small marble that hung from it. Booth turned to the side looking out over the river bed, lifting his shirt front he used it to wipe seat off of his face. Her breath caught in her throat.
“Doctor B. . .” there was no mistaking it. Parker noticed as he dragged the sleeping bags towards their site. She was looking at him the same way dad looked at her. There was no way she would look at him that way. His dad was big, and he was just. . .
Brennan shook herself mentally to find Parker watching her. Immediately heat rose to her cheeks. It was highly unlike her to blush.
“Parker,” said Brennan. “Do you need any help with the sleeping bags?” she asked. He felt like crying, but boys didn’t cry. He had only seen Drew cry once but that’s because his little sister was just born. Mom had said boys cry sometime too, because they were so happy.
“No,” he replied. “No I can get them.” He thought she liked him, she kissed him on the cheek once. She tucked him in once when he spent the night at his fathers. She had even played war and screamed like a boy. Parker pulled the bags past her and headed to the tents.
“Here dad,” Parker said once he reached Booth. “Is it okay if I go sit by the river for a few minutes, I have some. . . .man thinking to do.” His dad would understand.
“Yeah bud just stay where I can see you,” Parker nodded and headed off to the rocks. What now? He thought to himself.

Re: Camping. . . .
“What happened?” Booth asked. She was definitely not going to tell him that his son caught her ogling him. Her cheeks were still flaming, and she wasn’t the type to lie either.
Brennan looked over at Parker. “He saw me looking. . .”
“At what?” Booth asked confused. Who was out there for her to look at, they really weren’t close to any other campers. The nearest ones were up the river a little. Booth could see their camp fire in the distance. He was sure eventually Parker would make his way over. Maybe find a friend or two.
Brennan took in a deep breath. She may as well tell him, it seems like they were coming to that cross road in their budding relationship. “Looking at you,” she said finally.
Booth tried to hide the smile that spread across his face, but it was impossible. Had she just said what he hoped she said? “Why were you looking at me?” he asked her.
“Booth I haven’t kept it a secret that you have a very well built body. You are a perfect example of an alpha male. I was only. . .”
“Looking at me like eye candy?” He said smiling.
Brennan blew out a breath in a huff. “Booth, that is impossible. Eyes cannot be candy and I will. . .” she started to walk by him but he caught her by the arm.
His eyes looked different as she stared into them. “We’re gonna finish this conversation when Parkers in bed, just us. A good old fashion marshmallow roast just us. . .adults.”
Brennan swallowed hard when he released her arm she headed toward the tents. Pulling her cell phone out of the pocket of her shorts as she went.
Parker thought until he couldn’t think anymore. He had never had his heart broken before. Was this what it felt like? He stared down into the water at himself. He didn’t know weather to talk to his dad or just talk to doctor Bones. He looked back at their camp site. His dad was getting sticks for the fire and he noticed doctor Bones standing beside the tent on her cell phone.
His dad was a good guy, and if anyone was going to date Bones he wanted it to be his dad. Eventhough it felt like his heart was falling apart his dad was a better man.
Parker knew what had to be done. Booth spotted his son approaching and waited for him to say something.
“Well?” Booth began.
“Dad, I need to have a talk with Bones. If that’s okay,” from the look in Parkers eyes, he knew he was serious. His son’s first heartache, it seemed unfair for an eight year old to look so upset.
“Sure she’s over there,” Booth pointed to where she was. Parker patted his dad on the arm. “Thanks dad,” he said as he passed him.
Brennan had just hung up her phone and turned to find Parker waiting. “Hey,” she said with a smile. Parker raised his hand slightly and mumbled a soft “hi”
He sighed heavily and took her by the hand leading her to a row of picnic tables. He let her sit first and then he sat. His dad always told him that a man lets the woman sit first.
“I need to talk to you.” He began. “Doctor Bones, I know you like my dad,” oh dear, she thought. She had to stop him but he held his hand up and stopped her. Surprised by this Brennan clamped her lips shut. “I decided to back off, he likes you a lot and I have to be the bigger man and know when I’m beat. We can still be friends can’t we?” Brennan leaned forward and placed a kiss on his forehead.
“Of course we can,” she replied.
Brennan looked over at Parker. “He saw me looking. . .”
