Anyone here play the guitar?

Do your fingers usually rip? I can't play for longer than a few songs because the skin on my fingers start to hurt and rip. It hurts to type too. Is there anything I can do to stop that? I mean people can play the guitar for hours, there has to be some trick to it...

So far as I know, Ella, they just toughen up their skin gradually. Callouses.

I know, I have yet to get to the bleeding fingers part, but it's taking me years to build up the skin, kinda sucks, honestly. I already have callouses on my hands from gymnastics, I don't need anymore. LOL!

Yep i play the guitar and i can tell you i had the same problem, i just used the play even when my fingers hurt...just give it time!
Even know if i dont pick it up for a few weeks my fingers will hurt..im just used to it!

I can't focus if my fingers hurt especially if I'm playing and singing at the same time.

If they hurt so bad that you cant focus...you probably should stop. But i found the only way to toughen them is to do lots of finger exercises, even if you're not strumming. I also alternated between a a nylon string and a steel string guitar when i first started...

I've been playing for 8 years and I didn't have this problem before. But I just got a new guitar and ever since my fingers have been ripping apart. I had to have my guitar custom made because I'm really short and my arms are short and my hands are small, so I had to get a shorter neck, but for some reason the strings really rip up my fingers.

Don't know what to tell ya' sweetie. My accoustic hurt more than my base, it tore up my cuticles even. My finger pads are calloused but they still get sore if I don't play regularly.

maybe the strings are set up too high, making you have to press harder? Just a thought, Kinda odd that you've been playing for 8 yrs and this happens now.

Yeah, Pimp, I don't know. When I first started I had nylon strings, it was a purple barbie guitar incase anyone cares. I probably need to see someone about it. At first I thought it was my nails, cause i'd have to press harder when my nails were longer, but they aren't long anymore, and it still happens. My friend said to put those circle band-aids over them, I may try that.

I'm calling out to all my guitarist friends again!!!! I'm learning a new song and it calls for an F and I rolled over it, it showed the finger placement, but I can't figure it out, can someone help me?

Thanks! I'm having trouble with my pointer finger, I think it's too small to cover the whole fret... It always crosses into the other fret....

I don't play the guitar, but you could use a guitar pick, couldn't you? or those finger ring pick things. The ones that are pretty much guitar picks on rings...

Yeah small hands are a problem! Just practice! Not saying you can grow your fingers But the more you play the more flexible your pinky becomes...kind of sounds strange...
