another name?
how can you have so many names for basically the same thing? Shocked

no they are different. I'm guessing they're prepared and baked differently. And the crumble is a lot different from the cake.

I know there's a difference in the two, but I would have never caught that. To me baking is a subset of cooking!

Alright, as much as I'd love to discuss more deliciousness, I ought to run. Might be back later, but if I'm not, have great weekends, all!

Here's an apple pie recipe, but I'll have to get you a pie shell recipe since y'all don't have that sort of thing either...

PENNSYLVANIA DUTCH APPLE PIE

7-10 apples, peeled, cored and sliced

Place sliced apples in 9 inch unbaked pie shell. Mix and sprinkle over apples:

1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon cloves

Sprinkle 1 tablespoon water (or fresh lemon juice if you have it) over top.

CRUMB CRUST:

1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup flour
1 stick butter

Mix together sugar and flour. Cut the butter into the sugar and flour mixture using a fork, pastry blender or food processor.

Sprinkle over top of pie.

Bake at 400°F for 40-45 minutes. If the pie begins to brown too rapidly, cover lightly with foil.

Served every Fall in Pennsylvania Dutch country. A combination of green (such as Granny Smith) and red (such as Cortland or Mcintosh) works best. A few drops of vanilla can be mixed into sugar.

And now for the pie shell ...

PIE SHELLS

ONE CRUST 8 OR 9 INCH:

1/3 c. plus 1 tbsp. shortening
1 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2-3 tbsp. cold water

TWO CRUST 8 OR 9 INCH:

2/3 c. plus 2 tbsp. shortening
2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
4 to 5 tbsp. cold water

Cut shortening into flour and salt until particles are size of small peas. Sprinkle in water, 1 tablespoon at a time, tossing with fork until all flour is moistened and pastry almost cleans sides of bowl. Gather pastry into ball; shape into flattened round on lightly floured cloth-covered board. (For 2 crust, divide in half.)

Roll pastry 2 inches larger than inverted pie pan. Fold pastry into quarters; unfold and ease into plate, pressing firmly against bottom and sides. Trim over hanging edges. For baked pie shell, heat oven to 475 degrees. Prick bottom and sides thoroughly with fork. Bake 8-10 minutes.
