Soooo...Bones!! Season 3!!!

Isn’t it wonderfully unbelievable that Bones has been with us for almost 3 years now? And hey have been happy, fun, exciting times :-)

Like probably everyone else I had lots of expectations about the new season. Only time will tell if they will all be met and I actually hope that, as always, the show will deviate from what I expect and surprise me :-)

Can’t say there were many surprises in the first episode, if any. But I am by no means disappointed because I didn’t really want any surprises just now. The first ep of the new season felt wonderfully familiar, cosy, like and old blanket from childhood filled with dearly loved memories.

I felt like we were invited along to a kind of family reunion, to meet the nutty, funny, sometimes annoying, but always cherished relatives. I also feel proud that the producers and writers feel confident about the value of the show and its future. Confident enough to start the season with an episode directed more at fans that viewers in general. I think everyone could have enjoyed it, but I am positive that there are other episode more relevant for newcomers. There will also be, (I expect them to!!!) wittier episodes, faster paced action, crazier dialogue, funnier jokes. I don’t think this was the best written episode we have seen, but our expectation of the show are high because it has brilliant writing. But I appreciate and cherish the fact that this was a dialogue with us, the family of Bones, a time to remember all that we love about the series and an opportunity for the creators to tell us that they are aware of our wishes, our preferences regarding the show.

Let’s review:

- B&B and the eternal puzzle of their relationship – check;
- Clueless Brennan – check;
- Swoonworthy lovers Ange and Jack – check (that kissss..sweet)
- Jacks’s obscene fortune – check! (spend to find the Titan)
- Particle analysis by Jack – check (red/pink granite whatever bits)
- Straight-talking and funny Caroline – check
- Creepy juky case – check; (added bonus of Jack conspiracy theories – double check!!)
- Bare bones – check!! (added bonus, they come from 6 different corpses muahahaha, the skull hello was great)
- Crazy psycho suspect – check (teenager with diamond tooth munches on fishy babies)
- Interrogation scene B&B – check
- Booth and his amazing people-reading skills – check; (with Angela behind him and he sees more, wow!)
- Upbeat and likeable boss Cam – check (she send Bones to Booth, me likeeeee)
- Booth & Jack male bonding – check;
- Booth and Cam friendship (and nothing else!) – check (and there are fairly few male-female friendship on TV)
- Booth and Zach thing – check! (don’t sleep on the metal table for dead people)
- B&B awwww moments – check; (we are the center and the center must hold awwwwwwwwwww)
- B&B sizzle moments – check (man on top with closed eyes, coffe cup, hand, lips ;-))
- Angela as BB shipper – check;
- Zaccharoni – CHECK!! (and providing amazing insight for case – check!)
- Weird science talk from another planet – check! (can’t repeat cause I’m from Earth and they are from Squintus)
- Booth with food - check! (ungual bites kill sandwich LOL)
- Booth in suit – check!
- Booth in jeans and T shirt – cheeeeck!
- Booth’s cocky belt buckle – check! ;-)
- Booth running down the hill – WHAAAAAAAAAA????? OMGG!! CHECK CHECK CHECK!! (ohh thank you for including that ooh so swoonworhty moment in the titles so that we can see it every week over and over again! Whatever gave them the idea, I wonder???)
- Bones in tight stappy top – check, at least they also considered the male viewers out there LOL


Ah, and Missing – Booth’s striped socks! – I had to find a fault!!!
Ahhhh, and Missing – the Angelator!!
Aaaaaandd Missing – steamy sex in Egiptian room..

But hey, I’ll be generous and forgive them for these 3 terrible omissions ;-) To be honest I can’t remember an episode when they managed to tick sooo many of my must-see boxes! I feel I need to really give them credit for making the effort for the season-opener; this is why I think it was especially for the fans :-) I am also very happy to see that everyone on the show is looking exceptionally well! Cam is bright and shiny, Bones looks better with longer hair and fresh and well rested, Angela and Jack are amazinggg (both better hair), Booth looks younger and even better, if that was even possible. Zack looks perfect for his part. He always looked so innocent and untouched by the outside world, maybe almost clinical. He looked tired, troubled but together, he just looked grown up, very very well done!!

Although the case was intriguing and chilling there were many funny moments:
Starting with “virgins are unethical” (heard many things about them , but this one is a first LOL), Booth’s interaction with Angela over the earpiece, “squeeze and squish LOL”, Cam about Booth “gotta love a self-destructive man with values”, Booth about Bones annoyed “you’re enabling somebody with a mental problem”, Zach “I’d like to get into whatever you were talking about before Dr Brennan’s mental problem”. ”Jack was incredibly funny this episode: the whole “I don’t know” where the pink rock bits came from, the “it would be awwsome if he were dead!!” His hands are like shovels! You can see him from the space shuttle! Just hilarious!
By the way Angela’s pic of the titan was soo cooll and totally funny!

Booth to freaky cannibal kid :”either you bite or I’ll make you!” was sooo hot!!
The freaky kid biting the red thing Brennan brought into the interrogation room was very predictable. I kept waiting for him to flash his teeth and take a bite…a bit overplayed. Cannibal is yucky enough for me, don’t need more visual props, nor referrals to babies and fish taste..that was just…too much!

I thought the tensions between Brennan and Booth were well played out. Yes we all believe the altar was part of it. But I am still not convinced that Brennan even acknowledges that kind of tension between her and Booth. I feel that it was indeed about Zack. The whole think reminded me of those “nothing” fights between spouses or good friends. She is sulking and he asks: something wrong? She: “Nothing!” “You seem upset, wanna talk?” “I said it is NOTHING!” LOL ..well, what was Brennan’s “nothing”? Basically she is mad that he let Zach go to war. Um, doesn’t that mean she is mad at Booth for not protecting Zach? Ups, protecting…but doesn’t she always say she doesn’t need his protection? Maybe she thinks she doesn’t, but she has certainly learned to take it for granted, in a good way. I got the feeling that instinctively she relies on him to be there and protect her. Bones might not admit it but she feels that Booth is the protector and the squints are her family. Or the one family she has chosen to have and can trust completely, just as she trusted Booth to protect her family. So what did Booth do? He didn’t consult her, didn’t even tell her that Zach was going to Irak, didn’t even try to stop him from endangering his life. So for her Booth, who she fully trusted, is guilty of the fact that she is maybe loosing part of her newly found family. The family which she has reluctantly grown to hold so dear. No, it is not rational, but I can understand why he is mad. She trusted him, she opened herself up to caring and she is hurt. I also think that her being mad at Booth is a good thing, because it is a sign of just how much she has come to trust him, far more than any of them realise. I liked the way their temporary distance showed not how different they think, but how different they react to problems and how they deal with them. Brennan shuts down and closes herself off in the lab and Booth goes nagging, insisting, almost begging to have it out in the open and deal with it. Once they manage to find a common field, where he is less touchy about the issue, less sentimental and backs off a bit, she opens up and they have an open, clean discussion of the issue and get it resolved. Nice way of providing us with an insight of where the relationship might go in the future, of what they need to build if they were to get involved on a more personal level. Interesting, but I miss the bickering :-) Let’s make a deal dear writers, go cool for the serious issues but give us the bickering over everything else and we promise to adore you :-p

Booth’s explanation is valid on the other hand;having an understanding of the limitations of the squint-world he wouldn’t deny Zach the change to grown beyond it. I thought it was very appropriate that he pointed out the fact that Bones thought growth in joining him in investigations and Zach has the right to do it his own way. Of course going with the military to a war zone is not ideal, far from it but maybe Zach needed some kind of shock treatment to the real world. I hope we will get more insight into it and I surely hope that the experience will not be used to show that Zach is deficient. I hope that it showed him how horrible reality can be, but I would hate the show to make him feel more inadequate. Not fitting in in the military is not being faulty, it just means you are cut out for a different type of activity. But the experience should make him even better at what he does. We’ll have to wait and see.
In the end his sudden return did not feel wrong. He was so eager to get back to his normality and I felt as happy as the characters on the show to see him again. The summer was long without Zach and in the end although I felt sorry for Clark, I am definitely happy to see him back, sooner rather than later. I got enough of a feeling from everyone that they were really missing him and just how much so that his return in ep 1 already felt justified.

I also liked the way Booth interacted with Clark. He says he likes him at the beginning, blames him for not supporting him and at the end is the only one who at least says “nice to have known you bud”. For everyone else he is only maybe potential help, but they mostly deny to acknowledge him, as if that would mean betraying Zack. Booth I thought was the only one who interacted with the guy on a more human level, which is natural because that is how he relates to people, on a more personal level.

Finally I have to agree with everybody else about the last scene...DC in the background? No chance!! Felt like a black and white movie from the 60s…..except it was in colour ..and in 2007!! Do much much better next time or forget DC monuments, go with a generic park bench, it will be much appreciated, thank you!
I liked the we are the centre thing…Booth needed reassurance that she would not bail out on him, that they would stick together no matter what. It is important to him :-) To us too, glad to know they will hold. Now from there to”felt like you kissed my hand” ….what a leap! We have been begging for progress for so long that this really took me by surprise. Cause this was nothing about work, this was flirting! Booth flirted with Brennan!! Openly and repeatedly, it didn’t feel like a Freudian slip, because he insisted. So I don’t know what to think. Does he suddenly feel so reassured about the stability of their relationship that he feels he can flirt with no consequences? Maybe, ..probably. I guess this is the big unknown of the season, other than the serial killer. Has Booth’s position shifted? Will he take a step in another direction, will the flirting open Brennan’s eyes?? Mmmmmmm..the possiblities!! Don’t know if and how much will be realised but I am glad we have the approval for evolution in this direction, the confirmation of a change! That is something to celebrate and really look forward to in the new season.

And last but not least congrats to ED and DB for making co-producers!!!

I enjoy reading everyones posts so much that I then
forget to post myself.
So glad we have The Anti-Boneyard to get true insights
as to what fans think.
They could have aired Widow upside down and backwards and
I would have loved it. I'd be confused but happy.
