S05E16 Sides ~ 100th Episode!

There's at least one word in there I'm not sure I've heard on prime time TV... And the actors are probably having fun, trying to access both their original takes on these characters and what they've developed into over the years.

One little warning...back last season, someone mentioned fake sides being occasionally posted (mainly Glowing Bones, I believe), so while this looks like fun, and I think they've got the right written attitude down, I will not be surprised if they pull a fast one on us. Especially if, as some of us have speculated, B&B have a night of hot sex. While I certainly hope not, we all know what HH and/or Fox are capable of.

Yes I was more than a little surprised to see that word in the sides, maybe that episode will be broadcast late or with special warnings like they sometimes do?

I loved that bit, it's one of the things I really do miss about Zach, he was such a good 'victim'. Oh, and ARRRRGH! I keep writing "Zach" because his name is Zachary Uriah Addy but I forgot it's California and they decided to spell Zachary phonetically hence it's "Zackary" even though the name was last popular about oh, 100 years ago and back then they spelled it with a ch...but I digress. Hey, what are the odds of that?

Don't we though? Honestly if there is a network that has a more deserving reputation for shitting all over good shows I'm not aware of it. They need a serious mental correction over there at FOX.

I hope not! I would hate to think that we've been watching 5 years of sexual tension that's supposed to be building towards something and they've already done it in the beginning. Kinda takes away a bit of the magic for me.

In any case, I'm excited to see the episode! Maybe I'm a bit twisted but I love it when they argue: the whole opposites-attract thing.

Wellll that's one way of looking at it. As I recall the scenario positted by myself and my Queen ran along the lines of: Booth is assigned a case that requires Brennan's input, he goes to the Jeffersonian and they meet for the very first time. Brennan is on the outs with Peter at that point and is attracted to Booth, seeks him out for a physical relationship. Booth isn't dating anyone, has issues with Rebecca of course, and finds Brennan physically attractive if emotionally distant. They sleep together and it proves to be more, so much more than either of them is willing to admit to or is ready for that both freak out a little. In order to work together and solve the case, they agree that "last night? It never happened" and proceed to work, awkwardly, toward finding the killer. They succeed, Booth goes back to the bureau, Brennan goes to Guatemala, and we can fast forward to the Cleo Eller case.

Sure, it might seem like we were getting a bum deal out of this scenario but think about this:

• It explains why a woman like Brennan who is absolutely casual and open minded about sex and totally attracted to Booth physically, didn't come onto him in the first season like she has (or had) any number of lesser males in the show's history.
  
• It explains her jealousy of Tessa, as well as her pleading for Angela to not get involved. For a woman like Brennan the only thing more humiliating than being thrown over for another lover is having your friend get involved like you're back in highschool.
  
• It explains the real animosity they have toward one another in the beginning of the show, if you recall it was much more than professional at first - or do we remember Brennan calling anyone else a "rat bastard" at any time in the previous four and a half years?
  
• It explains why both are so reluctant to admit their feelings for one another - Booth assumes Brennan has been able to compartmentalized it all and push it away because she really doesn't have any feelings for him and it was just meaningless sex. Brennan assumes that Booth, the heart of their partnership, has no feelings or interest in her at all emotionally and is struggles to accept her growing affection for him knowing it will never be fully returned.
  
• It explains why, when the line was so obviously a mistake, Brennan has never challenged him on that issue. Why would she when it simply reinforces their agreement and the status quo of their relationship?
  
• Finally it explains why Booth, who is so obviously in love with Brennan from mid-Season two on, continues to deny his feelings for her and insists she has no feelings for him beyond friendship.

True, not the best of all possible outcomes but it would explain a LOT of things and add a great deal of context to their often contradictory and bone-headed actions on the show. Also, can you imagine Angela when she finds out that the reason they hadn't gotten together for years despite the palpable sexual tension between them is because they'd already HAD sex and it was so amazing they couldn't deal with it? She'd likely kill them right before her anneurism took her down.

I'm sorry to say it, Robert, but I hope you're wrong. All wrong!
I hate the idea of them having sex in a prequel. Nothing against them together now, they can do it in every episode (oh, I would love it!), but please not back then. HH better NOT write it in!..

I hope they didn't have sex back then....that would be just wrong somehow

I don't think they've had sex, because there was an episode (can't remember exactly which one) where she told Angela that Booth had no direct knowledge of what she was like in bed.

Not to say the writers couldn't have messed with continuity though, they have a habit of that.
