Profile Pics - Gender Discrepancy??

Post by ksnsd on Fri May 14, 2010 9:13 am

When a user has a male profile pic, I feel like I’m talking to a guy. Then, I go to click the image to go to their profile and these females with these really masculine looking profile pics (booth shooting a gun) are actually females. Then, eventhough I know that person is a female, I still feel like I’m talking to a male because of what their profile pic looks like. I know, weird right. Does anybody else feel this way?

I was going to post examples, but I didn’t want to offend anyone, so I made up one.

How can you respond to someone with a profile pic that looks like this and feel like you are responding to a female?

Gender probably shouldn’t make a difference, but it still makes me feel out of sync.

LOL I usually assume the other way, if I'm talking to someone with a pic of Booth I assume it's a woman who thinks he's hot, ditto for pics of Emily, I assume it's a guy who think's she's hot Smile

(also this is my reasoning for my pic, I adore DB, well most of the time anyway, and love this pic of him)

well on here it's pretty easy we are to 99% females......
and I think treble is right, I just assume that those who have pics of Booth are the females.....or gay males.....(no idea if we have those too.....not that I know of)......

what about your pic then?
*note the sarcasm please!*
should we assume that you are both?
*end sarcasm, don't be mad at me*

I think the pics don't say anything about gender....maybe about the personality......I used to have one that said something about coffee, I already had a Booth-pic, a pic of Michael Ballack (German soccer player), the sarcasm one now, the 'Have A Nice Day' cover pic (that's the red face) and some other stuff
I don't think that can tell you much about whether I am male or female.

I never paid any attention to it though, so maybe now that I look at it differently I might realize it too.

Yeah, I think he's really cute in your pic as well. At first when I started responding to your posts, I thought "Who's that hot guy I'm talking too?". I now get your female though. I see your point and never really thought of it that way.

In reference to the 99% females comment - I noticed. In reference to the should we assume that you are both? Maybe lol, When I see both Deschanel and Boreanaz, I don't really feel like I'm talking to a girl or guy..gender doesn't seem to stand out for me as much I guess.
