Brennan also said that Booth said that insanity statement when Cam really did.

As of 100th episode, the reason why Booth and Brennan aren't together is totally on Brennan. You can't have a Booth and Brennan with just a Booth..and he went all in and got burned.
I disagree. Booth, who knows Brennan, sometimes better than she knows herself, approaches Brennan talking about "people who've been married 40 , 50 years." Like, really? It was like he'd never met her! No pressure, Brennan, let's give this a shot, we're going be like people who've been married for 40 or 50 years. Of course she freaked out! This is the guy who gently and subtly got her to reconcile with her dad, spend Christmas, not only with a cousin she'd just met, but have the ENTIRE Jeffersonian team over for Christmas dinner. Yet, he jumps from giving it a shot to talk of 40 or 50 years and marriage? I'm sorry, the words were pretty, but for someone who knows and loves Brennan the way he does, that speech made absolutely NO sense. Leaving it as canon, Brennan, as much as she has changed, upon hearing that speech, has nowhere to go BUT panic. Mad

This is why I hated the 100th. The Booth who knows Brennan would NEVER have followed up "let's give this a shot" the way he did. The entire scene was basically a set-up to reset the relationship. If you DON'T look at Booth and his character, then, yeah, Brennan choked. When look at the scene in the context of the show's entire history it's like, WTF was that!?

Sorry but I don't see how Booth finally vocalizing his love for Brennan is in any way a reset to the relationship. It is a major step forward.
I would also like to say that he never said marriage during that scene, he just stated that he knew from the beginning that he loved her without saying the L word. Saying love along with marriage would have sent her on a Goodman type sabbatical. He knew what not to say but he still had to get it out there that he wants her.

Booth had to finally get this of his chest. He has been holding this in for what 3-1/2, 4 years, he is sitting in Sweets office where he is revisiting all the emotions from their first case and the feelings he knew he had are being brought to a boil. Then Booth hears Sweets tell him he has to make the first move and Booth knows he is right. He has to break this stalemate, he takes a gamble and lost but it is now out there and as time has shown during the last few episodes of the season it is moving Brennan into unchartered emotional territory.

It was such a emotional scene that was acted superbly by both DB and ED. I believe that the shock of it has caused some fans not to want to see how true to character it was for both Booth and Brennan. The 100th episode is in my top five favorites for Bones.

I respect that. We all have different views and opinions on this issue. We don't have to agree. Laughing By reset, I mean it pushs B&B apart at a time when they had steadily been getting closer, Brennan had - until this scene - gotten to a place where she was open to exploring a romantic relationship with Booth.
I would also like to say that he never said marriage during that scene, he just stated that he knew from the beginning that he loved her without saying the L word. Saying love along with marriage would have sent her on a Goodman type sabbatical. He knew what not to say but he still had to get it out there that he wants her.

What he said was "when you look at couples who've been married 40, or 50 years, it's always the guy who says 'I knew' ...I'm that guy."
What BRENNAN got out of that was: "he thinks we can be a couple that lasts 40, or 50 years...he thinks I'm THAT girl." Hence complete freakout. Booth KNOWS what she thinks about marriage, her fears around it. WHY ON EARTH would he even bring that idea into it?

Booth had to finally get this of his chest. He has been holding this in for what 3-1/2, 4 years,
I'd say he starts to get an clue when he sees her with Sully, but falls for her during season three. Brennan, however, I think has known her feelings and denied them from season 1.

Yep, Sweets did put that in play, and yes Booth needed to say he wanted a romantic relationship with her. Unfortuately he came at the issue with a sledgehammer. Brennan and the topic of marriage should never be used anywhere near each other - and anyone who knows her knows that.

It was such a emotional scene that was acted superbly by both DB and ED.

On this, I absolutely agree. They did an amazing performance. Brilliant.
I believe that the shock of it has caused some fans not to want to see how true to character it was for both Booth and Brennan.

Here's where I disagree: I think the brilliant performances let people miss how much of a set-up that scene was.
The 100th episode is in my top five favorites for Bones.×/

Still hate it. Smile However, it's done. I'll give Booth a temporary insanity pass and see if they can clean this mess up. Razz

To me, I think the last few scenes of the 100th episode were some of the best acting and directing scenes that I have ever seen on TV even though they were sad. David and Emily just HAVE it. They are both absolutely brilliant actors. Just think how great they would be if they had good writing to fuel their performances. As far as Booth shouldn't have pushed her, He gave it a shot and as hard it is for me being a woman understanding how she could turn down this GORGEOUS man still boggles my mind.

No, he definitely started having feelings for her long before Sully. Taking what we learned about their 1st case in the 100th episode out of the equation, I'd say he had started having feelings for her right around Woman in the Garden/Superhero in the Alley time...with it really coming out big time in Two Bodies in the Lab when he was all jealous of David, the guy she met online.

Brennan on the other hand has always been sexually attracted to him, but I don't think she started having other feelings for him until Sully. I think Sully was her outlet for all her sublimated feelings for Booth.

Hi, I'm a newbie.
I'm generally on another forum and I have to say, this is the best freakin analysis I've seen so far about the Finale. I completely agree with everything that was said here. I too have sometimes wondered if I am seeing the same show from some others that I converse with on this other forum. I like the other forum. I've made friends there. There are some that think this way as well. But then you get those that don't see any progression but rather the same old, same old.
I want to scream at them and say...how did you miss it...it's all there....open up your minds and eyes. These two people love each other but there are still obstacles to overcome. Don't you see that HH has set them up for the "possibility" of a relationship in a real, natural way and not just thrown at us because we've been demanding it? But I can't say this because these minds are closed. You can't have a discussion with something that resembles a wall. I hope I haven't offended anyone here, being that I'm a newbie. But I guess I felt the need to vent because I can't vent on the other forum. I'm going to still stay there but I think I'll be coming here as well...if I'm welcome.
Thanks, RexCat.

This is a forum where we can agree to disagree. ; ) Very similarly to Julia's other half - who completely disagrees with her. Welcome - even though I absolutely disagree with Julia. Laughing
