Buffy was great and Angel was a very good show too
Back then I was watching all kinds of supernatural stuff though, so maybe I wouldn't like it that much if I started watching it now

I've only seen the first four seasons of Buffy, and the fourth season was blah for me. I really didn't enjoy it after Angel left. The first three are great though.

Angel was great...with the exception of parts of season 4.

it wasn't girly
of course one can drool over DB or if you like underweight blond guys over the guy who played Spike, but the show didn't aim for that
Buffy got better again after Angel left, but the 4th season was a little boring at times

for a while Buffy, Angel and Charmed ran (in reruns) every winter Saturday afternoon on German TV
I'd get a cup of hot chocolate (that was before I developed the coffee addiction) and enjoy 3 hours of magic and vampires
