6x01 ~ The Mastodon in the Room ~ SHOW DISCUSSION

Okay, so I haven't watched yet. Anyone want to let me know...
IS IT SAFE TO WATCH?

(Just to let you know: By this I am not referring to Hannah, I don't mind as much about her, though it's not my favorite plot line. I'm talking "Is it one of those disastrous episodes from the end of last season?")

All I have to say is that I feel sorry for all of the folks that aren't watching because of the "Hanah" storyline. After tonight I am so stoked that this is the year for Brennan to realize what she has missed,
what she wants, and what she needs in a loving relationship, ie:Booth.

Why do I think that -
The snake comment about jumping on Booth
Daisy saying to Sweets that Dr. Brennan said she made a mistake
Brennan wanting to hug Caroline for bringing them back together
Booth only saying that "a heart attack" was serious, not his relationship

As for Cam blaming Brennan for the break up of the team - you go girl.
I think that the Hanah story and the rest of the team will push Brennan this year to realize that love is something special and to be cherished. i think they will continue to ask her if she's bothered or upset or why isn't she jealous. She's gonna have that ahah moment and I for one want to be there when it happens.
I think Booth will realize he doesn't have love with Hanah just a cheap imitation of what he wanted with Brennan.

This episode wasn't earth shattering, but it set me to believe that storm known as Hanah Burley isn't going to upset me in the least. I'm telling you folks we may have to sit through a disgusting kiss or two, but I am not worried. I am excited.

I haven't watched it yet, but I've heard specifically that there is no Hannah. They just mention her and we see a picture of her.

Really? Booth didn't described his relationship as "serious as a heart attack," he just said "heart attack?"..and what happens in the Brennan/Ang diner scene?

That's what I really liked, actually. There wasn't over-emphasis "OMG BOOTH HAS A GIRLFRIEND" all episode.

As usual I was interrupted but it was my doing so no one to blame but my self *sigh* But from what I did see, pretty good.

I was expecting worse, so I was pleasantly surprised. No Hannah in the opener and I was pleased by that, it would have been a needless distraction. The actual story worked much better than I thought it would and I found it well balanced, and oddly endearing. In fact the biggest downer for me was the actual "Mammoth in the Room". The concept was a rather stupid play on the common phrase "Elephant in the Room" and having an actual mammoth there at the end? Meh, it just didn't work for me. Anyway, Fringe is on and I've got an Inkslinger to write. Catch y'all later!

I thought the case was solved quicky and a bit too conventially ... but it was an interesting case in its own right. Actually there's kinda two cases going on here.

There was a lot of metaphoric stuff about BB ... I thought it was done fairly well, enough to make me smile but it didn't overwhelm. Booth only told two ppl about Hannah -- Bones and Caroline and both asked directly.

The girl scene with Ang and Brennan was pretty good ... I think it's very clear they're trying to show change in Brennan. She stuck up for Wendell when she had the perfect opportunity (or two actually) to insult him, she rather rationalized his thought processes. She even wanted to hug Miss Julian at one point.

I think it's safe to watch, IMO, better than Predator and Witch in the Wardrobe and the others from the end of last season (well aside from The Boy with the Answer, and the finale but I liked those.)

It wasn't directed specifically at you; I am sorry if you took it that way. It was just another reminder ~ talk of promos often leads to speculation about future episodes which just creates one big mess!

I am lukewarm about the premiere. I liked the scene with Angela and Bones in the diner. I hope we get to see more of their relationship this season, and I enjoyed A&H and the baby. I agree w/Katharine that this could quite poss. be the season (finally!), but I am still going to find the Hannah plotline and the obvious unease between B&B upsetting.

OH, and Booth def. said that his relationship w/Hannah was "serious as a heart attack". He might not have used those words, but it was implied...

The heart attack thing -
Pretty much what you saw from the previous promos for this episode.
Booth says - serious as a heart attack
Brennan - heart attacks are very serious
Booth - yes they are very serious
But not anything about his relationship.
I am going to go back and watch the scene that the reporter, Kristin (I think that's her name) says about Brennan's look when Booth takes down the bag guy - says it all about her feelings.
I thought she was very sweet to the child in the park, but the look didn't stand out as much to me as the look on her face when she first saw Booth on the stairs. I thought that said it all for her. IMO, she knows she shouldn't have left and she's going to be sad with the predicaments it has caused for her life. We will see it only in looks though, I don't think words yet.

I don't understand that at all. They aired, so they should be open for regular discussion. But whatever.

Believe it or not but there are people who avoid promos to be completely spoiler free.

I'm going to respectfully disagree with you. I didn't see it as being implied, just my take though.....
I think Booth will talk a good game for his relationship with Hanah, just like he did to Sweets about moving on, but he's trying to convince himself at the same time.
He's still hurt about losing that part of Brennan, especially since she didn't try to contact him while they were away.
It will take awhile and some tough episodes to live through with Hanah but I am more optimistic than ever that I will like this season.
