Hart Hanson & his tweeting habits
I thought I would start a thread dedicated to the topic of Hart Hanson and what he says to fans. No Spoilers in this thread please!
Is this exchange right or wrong? Should Hart have responded?
Fan: @harthanson & co #bones went exactly where It shouldn't have after 5 years. I am no longer going to watch it.
Hart Hanson reply: @nitratefilm So sad to hear that. Please watch your step on the stairs and pull the door shut firmly til it clicks as you go...

I saw that exchange too, and while I don't think that the original tweet was polite or a good idea, I thought HH's reply back made it worse. Although I'm sure he gets about a thousand of those type of tweets everyday and is tired of reading them, it just plays into the idea that he doesn't care about what the fans have to day ( TW I don't necessarily agreee with that opinion, but things like these play into that idea perfectly).

THIS IS ONLY MY OWN PERSONAL OPINION
That's exactly how to answer to that sort of thing. He can't get into discussions about what that particular viewer might have wanted to see or he'll have to go through that with each and every fan.
And he can't simply tell him/her to go to hell or ignore them because that would be impolite and would only cause some of the stranger 'fans' to get even more angry with him.
So he did the only thing that imo didn't cause too many problems. Essentially he told that person that he doesn't care but without actually saying it. And he's right. If he cared about every single viewer (who, let's face it, will most likely still watch anyway) who complains he would do nothing else all day for about the next 50 years.
And he wasn't mean or anything like that.
So I think it was okay to answer like that, especially since that person was asking for it anyway.....they did tweet him first after all.

I can see your point of view (and HH's for that matter) but I remember another fan tweeted him something along the same lines over the summer (I'm done with the show b/c B&B are so drawn out) and his tweet back said something like "We're sorry you won't be with us for the new season, but wish you well"
That to me was the best response-it didn't try to apologize or beg, but it stayed above the whole back and forth fray that Twitter can dissolve into so easily.
Of course, like I said, 1,000 tweets like this later, and who among us would be wanting to type back a restrained, polite answer?

That's exactly my point twitter and fan-pages and all that stuff are good for promo but they also put a lot of pressure on those who have to deal with it. And there must have been quite a few people who tried to convince him that what they want to happen was the right thing and it must have gotten on his nerves after a while.
He could have answered the same way as during the summer, but I'm sure there would have been someone who'd have found that to be disrespectful towards the fans too (giving the same response twice).

yep.places like Twitter are a double edged sword....I didn't think anything of that Tweet when I seen it....it's a lot more polite then I probably would have answered. LOL!

Yeah, just to blow a few folks out of the water here I'm actually in agreement with ToZ. HH is the show runner and getting tweets like that, well what do you expect him to say? Okay, sure, I might have gone with "Don't let the door knob split ya' where the good Lord split ya'!" but other than that I think he handled it right.

I gotta disagree. Hart had choices.
Even if the tweeter was basically stalking him to a point hard to ignore, Hart could block them. If that didn't work, he could report them to Twitter. I looked at nitratefilm's Twitter feed and it doesn't look like they were stalking Hart but who knows, tweets can be deleted.
Also, Hart could have direct messaged his reply to nitratefilm. Instead he put it out there for all his followers to see. That makes me think Hart's reply was for more fans than just nitratefilm, not the best PR -OR- Hart was too cranky to be interfacing with other humans at the time, something totally forgiveable cause I've been there, done that.
What we should all recognize from this is that Hart can look after himself in critical exchanges.

If I keep agreeing with Robert I'm gonna need medication.
But -- I think Hart was totally in the right here. It's like the expression "Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer." Well same goes, "Say something rude, expect something rude in return." In real life, if someone said something rude to you, would you be nice to them in return? "I hate your shoes, I'm not watching you wear them again!!!" "Oh, ok, man, I wish you liked my shoes. Should I go change them???? I'm so sorry you don't like my shoes!" Yea, no one is going to do that. Basically Hart is saying, "If you don't like my show, don't watch it!"
And as far as private messaging, Hart can't do that ... that would just set a horrible precedent, he has too many followers to start that. It's also in his best interest to keep all his communications with fans public; else someone could accuse him of saying something in a PM that he didn't.
He's addressed the blocking people thing, he said something about not caring that people speak their minds, and that's no reason to block them ... which is not the same as not being sarcastic toward them. Also, IMO, if he goes so far as to block people or report them, he'll just be adding fuel to the fire. That's what posters like this really want to do I think, stir the pot.
So, yea, I think Hart was perfectly justified in his reaction to this person.

Noooo... What Hart said somewhat euphemistically was: F... off and don't let the door hit you in the a.. on the way out. A subtle but very distinct difference in message.
Plus there is the no question in this instance that Hart is speaking as the showrunner for Bones and not as a private individual. Another definite difference from a PR perspective.
We probably should just agree to disagree at this point.

Actually I think that's what he wanted to say, but tried to put it more nicely.

That still doesn't mean he has to kindly respond when people outright bait him and say rude things that they'd never say to his face.
We probably should just agree to disagree at this point.

Strongest thing I have right now is prescription strength Naproxen for a pesky little medical condition .... and I'm not sure I wanna be invited to a party in your pants.
But glad that's workin' for ya. Oh, BTW, I even agreed with most of your Inkslinger. Wait, I do have tequila .... be back shortly.
