So this idea came to me the day after Knight on the Grid, and I have finally perfected it. Hope you enjoy!!

At the end of Knight on the Grid…
The heavy door banged shut behind her and the shots stopped.
“I figured I’d fin you here,” Bones said quietly, resting her hands in the large pockets on her jacket, and slowly walking towards her obviously distraught partner. He still held his gun in the air, aimed expertly at the fake target.
“You coming to shoot?” He asked, still holding his gun up, but turning his head to look at his partner.
“No,” she answered. Booth sat the gun on the ledge in front of him, slightly worried. Bones never would upright admit she wanted to talk to him, but here she was at a shooting range not wanting to shoot. She appeared at his side before he could turn around, ducked her head under his arm, and slipped on arm across his chest and the other across his back. Her sudden action surprised him and he rested his arm over her shoulders.
“You okay?” He asked. She shook her head and leaned her head against his shoulder. He ran his hand down her back.
“You want to…talk about it?” She nodded, and he could see the hot tears starting to glisten over her eyes. One toppled over and ran down her cheek.
“Not yet?”
“Just - - give me a second,” she choked. Booth understood her statement and rested his chin on the top of her head as he waited.
“I was just with Haley,” she began, “Russ-” she broke off and cried silently for a few seconds, “This is just…too……much,” she finally concluded, “The only remaining family I have are criminals.” The tears started to fall harder, and her shoulders shook slightly.
“Shh, shh,” Booth tried to comfort her. Her grip around him strengthened.
“And dad’s lying to Russ who’s lying to me and lying to dad,” she paused, “It’s not fair that I have to be stuck in the middle of it, Booth, I hate it. Because even though both Russ and dad left me I still feel…it’s like…I feel…they’re still my family.” She shook with sobs. Booth gently rotated her from his side to his front and waited as more tears fell. She cried for minutes that felt as painful to Booth as if it was him crying. He loved her so much it hurt him to see her in pain; a pain that he couldn’t eliminate, only comfort.
Her crying settled and she untangled one of her arms to wipe what tears hadn’t soaked into Booth’s shirt, then buried her face in his chest.
“Bones, I’m so sorry,” Booth began silently as he ran his hand up and down her back. She jerked away suddenly.
“Are you okay?” Booth fired protectively. His hands still rested on her back, but she’d leaned back away from him slightly.
“It’s just my head,” she fingered the long laceration on her forehead. Booth raised a hand and felt the coarse abrasion. She winced in pain.
“Am I make it worse?” He asked so caringly she wanted to just melt in his arms.
“No it just…hurts.” Her face finally relaxed and Booth himself felt greatly relieved.
“Why did we get dragged into this Gormagon thing?” She asked, annoyed.
“Because it’s our job,” Booth answered plainly.
“I hate it,” she said suddenly and vehemently. “Threats on my life, bombs on my car window,” she began to list. Booth was slightly surprised. Normally he was the one who worried about threats on her life and getting blown up – and here she was angry about it. Her typical response was something along the lines that if she was allowed to work, she would catch the bad guy. Booth was nervous. Now she seemed so defeated and-
“Booth, I’m scared.” The three words hit Booth like a freight train. He always wanted to protect her, and have her willingly let him do so, but somehow he didn’t like it like this. He didn’t like his Bones being scared. Her crying had finished, now she was just holding onto him as if her life depended on it. Booth ran a hand through her soft, tantalizing hair.
“I’m right here Bones. Nothing’s going to happen to you,” she was silent for a moment as Booth rocked her back and forth.
“I know you are now but what about when I got home? What about when my refrigerator blows up again?” She spoke nervously.
“I have a couch,” Booth suggested. She didn’t speak, and Booth became nervous that he’d said the wrong thing. Instead of speaking, she simply nodded.
Booth’s apartment was warm, and Bones was even warmer wrapped in a down blanket, curled up on her partner’s couch. He sat on the ground in front of the couch, watching the end of the day’s sports highlights. It was unexplainable how safe she felt, but she did. The uncertainty was almost gone.
The show Booth’d been watching ended, and he turned the TV off.
“You okay?” He asked as he leaned his head back against the couch to lok at her.
“Mostly,” she answered, her sleepy, content eyes hypnotizing her defenseless partner. Booth pushed himself up so he sat on the open area where her thin waist didn’t cover the couch.
“You sure?” He pushed a stray hair away from her face. She held his caring gaze for a while, and the uncertainty vanished. He could tell she was thinking.
“How do you do it?” She asked suddenly.
“Do what?” He asked in return. She thought quickly.
“Make me feel so…safe.” Booth smiled happily. This was why he so desperately wanted to protect her – he loved hearing that he made her feel safe, it made him feel so close to her.
“It’s my job,” he answered. She smile sleepily.
“You do it well, then,” a compliment from Bones – that was miraculous. Booth couldn’t think of what to do he was so happily stunned.
“Well, my handsome charm might have to do with it to,” he decided to push her buttons. Her eyes became much more aggressively alert. She threw a pillow at his head.
“Go to bed!”
“I love you too, Bones!” He said as he shoved the pillow against her face, carefully not to hit her cut forehead. She laughed and pushed him off.
“Good night!” She said forcefully, but with a playful smile.
“Night Bones,” Booth stood up to walk to his bedroom and was pelted in the back of the head by a pillow. He turned around and she pretended to be asleep. He grinned and continued to his room. She bound herself to him more and more everyday. He sighed contently with the thought that one day she would realize she had unknowingly intertwined herself so closely with him that she couldn’t leave his side.

Thanks!! Since I was little when people have said "bonding" I literally get this image of like these thick cords coming out from each person's heart and connecting with the other person's heart...a little creepy but a tad bit literal (haha I pulled a Bones...I do this regularly) You know...bonding something together is using something to connect two...or more... things. In my mind's literal, slightly crazy eye, I saw people literaly "bonding" with each other. Thus, when I think of two people being close I think of two people being connected...and I make the jump to "intertwined."

Whew...long explanation for a little word but what can I say? It's just how I am - another Bones quality I have.

So...more soon! I have it written, I just need to type it.
