A Wonderful Woman – By iluvbandb Posted 25/11/2007 05:08:14 PM

Got this idea sitting in church today...hope you enjoy! I hope to finish before Xmas episode so that it doesnt clash with the Xmas storyline.

She’d kissed him. She’d KISSED him! Mistletoe, blackmail or not it had been wonderful. So much had been happening with her frustrating family and it was just…therapeutic whenever she was with him. She’d KISSED him!

As she sat at her desk, filing her papers, she heard his voice, and could tell from the elevated tones that he was stressed about whatever he was talking about. A thrill ran down her spine as she waited for him to come around the corner into her office. Everything seemed so much brighter now. She didn’t really care at that moment that they weren’t ‘together.’ She cared that their closeness had been affirmed and that she was hopefully spending some of Christmas with him. It was a love different than anything she’d felt before…she was so happy with being around him, so thankful for their partnership. Around him, the world seemed brighter, more interesting, and exciting. Everything was better with him. She couldn’t imagine being any luckier.

“Thank you Rebecca,” Booth seemed much calmer than what Bones had thought he sounded from what she’d heard in the hallway, but she figured she had probably been wrong.

“Parker?” She asked, looking up from the files.

“Yeah…Christmas…it’s so…frustrating sometimes,” Booth sighed dejectedly.

“I’m sorry Booth. You’re very good to Parker,” she offered. His face softened and he relaxed. She had an innocently lovely calming effect on him sometimes…when she was being nice. He grinned. Otherwise, she probably just ADDED to the stress.

“Hey, you can help me on this, you’re a woman,” Booth said suddenly. She looked up.

“What exactly am I helping you on, because really this sounds like an Angela thing,” she stated suspiciously. He leaned forward from his position in the chair in front of her desk and withdrew a long velvet box from his suit jacket. She peered at it with a frown. He slowly opened the box to reveal a diamond-encrusted gold bracelet. She gasped slightly.

“What do you think? Would this tell a woman just how wonderful she was?”
Her breath caught. All this hope and obviously their moment before had meant nothing to him. Her mind reeled, and she almost felt dizzy with fallen hope. Anger started to bury itself into her heart. THIS was why she didn’t let herself love people. He obviously loved someone else and this was the large downfall she’d always known of love. False hope. It created hope that was completely illogical no matter how logical you tried to remain. Then in one final, crushing blow, it became reality how stupid you were to ever hope. Booth had always had different girlfriends, why couldn’t she see it? He’d NEVER shown interest in her…well she’d felt like he had but obviously it was the false hope of love that made her think so. She bit her tongue and tried to hide the angry, jealous tears.

“Bones? Do you have an opinion? I mean…you always do,” he smiled and his smile grated her nerves. Whether it was his fault or not that she loved him the happiness on his face made her angry beyond reason. She had to get away from him, and fast. She couldn’t be around him.

“Yes, Booth. It would,” she answered tightly and looked away. “Do we have a case?” She asked, trying to hide the icy chill starting to creep into her voice.

“No, Bones…something wrong?” He still smiled and she had to look away.

“No I just have… a lot of work to do,” she answered.

“Alright, talk to you later?” He said, quickly standing up to exit the room.

“Yeah, later,” she managed. He disappeared down the hall. Only when she had watched his black SUV veer out of the parking lot did she let one silent, angry tear fall.

love it? hate it? dont think I even add more?? please...do tell.

I hope you do continue. It has a great start. Who could it be for? Is he that clueless to what he just did? I have some ideas but it is not a girlfriend like she thinks. Like I said I hope you continue so we can read the answers to these questions.

CHAPTER 2
Posted 25/11/2007 09:40:42 PM

Bones had gathered herself together for the most part…at least she wasn’t a crying, weepy mess. No, now all she had was a bitter, crushing hatred for love. As she sat at her desk, her bitter state making her moody and cranky, she coiled and recoiled her fists thinking about Rebecca. She had thought that Booth was having problems with her over Parker but apparently not. All she could hope for was that she wouldn’t have to see him. She would burst, she just knew it, and she didn’t want to ruin all his happiness, no matter how angry she felt like she was at him.

However, she was going to have to see him if he followed through with their Christmas plans. Earlier, before the kiss and the horrid representation of the false hope of love, he’d said that he had a very slim chance of being with Parker for Christmas and had planned to come over with her to the arranged Christmas party with her distorted family. His presence was appreciated more to her than he’d ever know. Although she would never admit it, her dysfunctional family stressed and irritated her to a point of emotional exhaustion. She just couldn’t handle it all on her own, but was too independently driven to have the heart to admit it to anyone. As angry as she felt, she knew she needed him there and some of the dependency she felt with him brushed off a small, thin layer of her throbbing, hot anger.
She looked dazedly at her computer’s digital clock, and it read 1:27. She sighed. She had completely immersed herself in her work, and now she was just beginning to realize just how far down she’d buried herself in it. As she was shutting down her computer, her phone buzzed. She picked it up and glanced at the caller ID…Booth.
“Brennan,” she answered tiredly and impatiently.
“Bones!! You okay?” Booth asked. He knew her too well and tonight it bothered her because her stomach got butterflies and her heart started to spasm just thinking about how caring and knowing he was. However, her logical mind was fired up more so than her heart and it pushed what she could only see as false hope out of her heart very quickly, knowing that she had to defend herself.
“Yes, I’m just tired and I did a lot of work today,” she answered tersely, exiting her office and heading for her car.

“Okay…hey I’ve got some really bad news,” he began. Her anger’s slowly dwindling flame was re-kindled with a vengeance she’d never before felt.

“What?”

“Rebecca just called me and said that I could have Parker,” he paused.

“Isn’t that good news?” She asked, annoyed.

“Not completely…I only get him on Christmas Eve.” The words hit her hard. She didn’t know if she should be happy because she wouldn’t have to face him or to be angrier because she knew that there’d been some hope that she’d at least get to be with him then, even if the mysterious “wonderful woman” would steal him away for sure some day during the Christmas holiday.

“Okay…it’s fine Booth. Be with Parker.”

“Really Bones? I mean I’m really angry at myself for letting you down. I said I’d go with you, I want to be there with you,” he explained. There it was again…a dwindling hope that he really DID want to be with her…more than “wonderful woman.”

“Booth your son is more important than me,” she answered tightly.

“I really am sorry.”

“Don’t be.”

“Okay, I’ll see you sometime soon, okay?”

“Okay.” She hung up hurriedly. She needed some sleep.
____________________________________________________________
She woke up with an anger hangover. It wasn’t anger that completely riddled her body right now. Now it was a deep sadness that had been the main source of the anger…She knew that she protected herself, her true, inner self, and that she didn’t want in any way to be sad or unhappy. Especially over something as trivial as a guy. The sadness had poisoned her broken heart and was pumped throughout the rest of her body. A little anger remained, but it was only because she wanted so desperately to be happy, and because her love felt like it could only ever be unfulfilled. She rolled over and glanced at the clock…11:23. She groaned and got up.

Today was the day before Christmas Eve and she had a few last minute arrangements to accomplish before she could be set for the family reunion. She dressed quickly, and ran out to shop and came home exhausted, but continued on until everything she’d planned was finished. After uncharacteristically watching a few chic-flicky romantic movies, she headed off to bed, no happy than before, but much more at peace with love itself, if not completely.
____________________________________________________________
(Christmas Eve morning)
The sweet aroma of sugar cookies danced through her home as she switched the baking pans in and out of the ovens. Angela was dancing around the kitchen, helping her decorate the cookies with elaborate icing, and bringing the Christmas spirit with her. Bones knew Angela read her like a book, and smiled and laughed and provided ample conversation, but inside her heart was contracting and tearing and breaking so much. Her smiles felt fake, her laughs hurt they were so forced, and her conversation was light and small talk.

Finally, all the cooking and baking was done and Angela excitedly turned to her and announced,

“It’s done!!” Bones smiled widely and welcomed her friend’s hug. Angela pulled away.

“You’re okay, right?” Good, she wasn’t accusing her of anything, she just thought that MAYBE there was something wrong with Bones. Bones smiled an almost real smile having realized eventually she was going to have to just move on with her life.

“Yes, I’m just…nervous to see my family,” she thought up a quick excuse.

“Well you’ll have Booth there,” Angela stated not knowing what a tender place she’d touched. Bones tried not to wince and succeeded, and was very happy to find that she felt much better hearing Booth’s name.

“Not really…he finally won with Rebecca and he gets Parker…but only for Christmas Eve. So he called to say he couldn’t come,” Bones decided to tell her.

“Oh, sweetie, I wanted him there with you,” Angela whined. Slightly happy, Bones thought That makes two of us.

“Oh well, I’ll be fine, Ange.” Angela smiled.

“Okay, have fun.” Bones nodded and watched her friend leave. As her thoughts returned to normal, she jokingly made fun of the “wonderful woman” in her mind. Almost everything was back to normal…Booth jumped in and out of her thoughts, she was making fun of his female lovers, she was just much more cautious…and that wasn’t always bad.

**hopefully one more before I go to bed and that should end it** glad you guys like it so much!

CHAPTER 3

Posted 25/11/2007 10:01:35 PM

**NEVER MIND THIS ISN'T THE LAST ONE BUT I DONT HAVE TIME TO FINISH TODAY...DONE TOMOROW**

Bones trudged through the slushy snow as she headed towards the building where her carefully planned family reunion was about to take place. Her hands were full with platters and food and a kind looking man helped her through the door. After clearing amazing amounts of security, she finally entered the plain room set up for their meeting.

After half an hour of work, she had everything and place and all she had to do was wait. Russ’s girls and his girlfriend (wife?) arrived first, Haley on a leave from the hospital, and feeling much better. Haley ran to Bones and started talking to her and (Amy?) Hollister watched her with a happy stare.

“Thank you so much for doing this Dr. Brennan,” she thanked.

“You’re welcome, I know it means a lot to you and Russ as well as Russ and dad,” Bones stated, and an awkward silent ensued that was broken by the opening of the door and Russ and her father entering the room. Russ wrapped his arms around his wife and a slight pang of loneliness shot through Bones. She’d adjusted though. She’d finally realized she loved Booth and there was nothing she could do about it but trust that everything turned out liveable in the end. Her father smiled at her and eagerly started to eat a cookie. With Haley on her hip, Bones stood up.

“You guys want to eat?” She said in rare a social outreach she didn’t normally take. They all nodded and dinner began. They ate and conversed solidly for a long two hours and slowly, the conversation dwindled as Haley and her sister began to doze off. On the couch with her father, Bones was surprised to feel her phone vibrate in her back jean pocket. She slowly pulled it out and looked at the caller ID…Booth. She looked at her father to see if he’d noticed anything, and, upon seeing the interested look in his eyes, realized he had. He nodded his head as if to tell her to answer it and she finally did.

“Hell-o?” She asked, slightly suspicious.

“Merry Christmas Eve, Bones,” Booth said happily. She frowned and stood up, walking slowly to the corner for a little privacy.

“Booth, you know I’m with my family and I know you’re with Parker, why are you calling me?”

“Can’t I just call to wish you a merry Christmas Eve?” He said in his charming voice he used when he had no argument, just wanted to win her over like any other woman.

“No,” she answered, the best she had.

“Well then, I guess I can’t tell you about your Christmas surprise,” he whispered slyly.

“What?” She asked.

“I know you heard me.”

“Fine, you can call me just to wish me a merry Christmas Eve,” she said defeatedly.

“Good, that’s what I thought. Now go over to the window and look down.”

CHAPTER 4
Posted 27/11/2007 07:33:18 PM

hhheyy!! 27 minutes till Bones!!! AHHH!! Well I had to post before the Xmas ep, so I hope you like!! =)

She looked down and smiles broadly. Every angry, mean thought she’d had vanished with regret. Booth stood, still on his phone, smiling brightly up at her with his little boy safely tucked under his arm. She stood in silence, to happy to speak.
“You there?” Booth asked.

“Yeah, “ she answered simply.

“Temp,” Russ was at her side. She painfully tore her gaze away from Booth and Parker, “You’ce done enough for us here, go be with him.” Bones smiled.

“I’ll be right there, Booth.” She hung up, said goodbye to her father, hugged Amy and Haley and happily left.

Once outside, she almost ran to Booth, but the dangerously slippery snow under her kept her from doing so. She ran up to him and flung her arms around her smiling partner. Booth grunted at the hard impact, then wrapped his arms around her and spun her around after she kicked up her feet. After rotating in a full circle, je sat her down and kissed her forehead.

“Wow, Someone’s in the Christmas spirit,” he observed very excitedly. Bones caught his gaze and beamed back up at him.

“You could call it that,” she whispered breathily. Parker grabbed her legs.

“Doctow Bwennan! Doctow Bwennan! Mewy Early Christmas!” Bones smiled at Booth and turned around.

“Hey Parker,” she grabbed the little boy and swung him around in the air. He giggled.

“Stop! Stop!” Bones copmlied and set gim on the ground.

“Are you don for tonight?” Booth asked, directing her attention back up to him.

“If I want to,” she nodded.

“Well, do you want to be?”

“Depends, what’s in store?”

“A night with your favorite partner,” Booth flashed a charm smile that secretly wrenched Bones’ gut every time.

“You realize, as my ONLY partner, you’re both my favorite and least favorite,” she smiled problematically.

“Bones, you just HAD to say that?”

“Yes,” she nodded sweetly.

“Well?”

“I’m don,” she decided gladly. As excited as she was, she would never admit it.

“I thought so,” Booth dropped his arm over her shoulders, “I have to take Parker back to Rebecca by ten…in about 15 minutes actually. So, we’ll drop him off and then we can go to my place – I have a present for you.”
“Okay,” Bones said, slightly mesmerized by his tantalizing, brown-eyed gaze.
Parker had been dropped off and Bones sat on Booth’s couch while he made coffee in his kitchen. Booth returned and handed her a charcoal black, steaming mug of coffee. Bones took it from him grateful and drank the warm, sensual holiday blend.

“Like it?” Booth say down next to her with child-like glee.

“It’s really good,” she nodded.

“Good. So. I have a present for you,” he began.

“I have one for you too, it’s at home though. I didn’t think I would get to see you today.”

“I’m not worried about it. In about 15 minutes, it’ll be 12:01, and officially Christmas. So you’re gonna have to wait,” he said with a grin.

“Why are you like that?” She asked him.

“I like to bother you. Besides, I’m playing by the rules. YOU of all people should ENJOY that.”

“True,” she said and continued to drink her coffee…………………

~*~
The fifteen minutes went by agonizingly slowly, but soon enough, it was 12:01. Booth disappeared into his bedroom and returned with a mid-sized box wrapped in shiny red paper and accented by a loud green bow. His smile filled his whole face, and Bones was anxiously in wonder of what was in the brightly wrapped package. He handed it to her and collapsed on the couch next to her. She glanced his way.

“Well, open it,” he encouraged. She started to slowly tear the paper away, and opened the box…looked inside and saw none other than the fancy velvet box Booth had handed to her just days before. She gasped and froze. Booth sat, beaming, watching her from his perch next to her on the couch. She slowly picked it up and opened the velvet box with extreme care. Her eyes glistened with a layer of soft tears as the diamonds glinted back up at her.

“Booth,” she couldn’t even look at him quite yet she was still so stunned and too happy to realize how happy she was. Booth leaned in next to her. She turned towards him.

“I don’t… know what to say,” she whispered.

“Well, don’t then,” he said as he leaned in and kissed her softly. She leaned in against him after he’d pulled away.

“I love you, Bones,” he spoke into her hair.

“I love you too,” she said after leaning back and looking at him.

“After all, you are my Wonderwoman,” he said with a loving grin.

“And always will be,” Bones added, this time her turn to kiss him, “This is the best gift ever,” she said after she’d pulled away.

“A bracelet?” Booth asked.

“No…you.”
