TV on DVD to the rescue!

The end of the writers’ strike is looming before us, according to Michael Ausiello of TV Guide and numerous other sources. Sighs of relief are being heard all around the world. Finally, we my have an end to this TV dry spell. I don’t know about everyone else but I have a serious addiction to television. I admit I am a junkie. I watch about eight shows on primetime TV each week and now I only have two (Smallville and Lost) still running new episodes. Both air on the Thursday night so I spend the rest of the week craving my TV fix. The one thing that has helped me survive “new episode withdrawal” is watching the old episodes. TV on DVD is my hero.
Seriously, do you know how much better Grey’s Anatomy is the second time around? You catch more of the wit and the subtle changes; it’s like getting to know the characters you love all over again. So far I have watched the first five seasons of Smallville, the first two of Veronica Mars, the first season of the West Wing, the first season of Lost, and every episode of the Office (that’s what she said), not to mention the countless Friends episodes I’ve watched with my dad since Christmas. Not only that, but I have also started watching shows that I’ve never considered watching before or just never fit into my TV viewing schedule. I watched the first and only season of Freaks and Geeks, which is a damn good show with Seth Rogan before his Knocked Up success and James Franco as well. I've also gotten into Buffy the Vampire Slayer, about five years after it ended but that's beside the point. But the best TV on DVD gift the writers’ strike has given me was Bones. I don’t know why I waited this long to watch it. Bones is probably the most unique police drama on TV today. The plots are original, the acting is phenomenal and the chemistry between David Boreanez and Emily Deschanel is scorching. This may be sad, but after marathoning the first two seasons over Winter Break, I am already re-watching the first season.
TV on DVD may seem like an expensive habit, but you can skimp on the price and still enjoy the past seasons of your favorite shows. Target has a habit of lowering prices on the first seasons of shows. Amazon.com usually has tons of new or used copies for sale by other companies that are much cheaper than buying them at retail price. You could also rent them or borrow from your friends (that’s what I do). With writers’ strike almost over I might not have to turn to my DVDs that much any more. But there is always that summer dry spell to look forward to *wink*.

Say What You Want: Goodbye, dear ABY. You have been my home for 3 years now, and I am going to miss you. Thanks, willgirl, for creating this wonderful forum. *hugs to all*
Closing time - time for you to go back to the places you will be from.
Closing time - this room won't be open 'til your brothers or your sisters come.
So gather up your jackets, and move it to the exits - I hope you have found a friend.
Closing time - every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end.

Writers will hopefully be going back to work on Wednesday, which hopefully means that we will have new epis. Who knows what they are going to do to the schedule now. But let's hope that Bones moves up to March!
