All About the Teeth (Pain in the Heart) by akajb

Hi everyone! <waves>

I haven't posted here before since I just joined this morning, and actually only discovered the site yesterday. However, as I do not have any close friends who watch the show, and anyone who does is not super interested in discussing it, I thought I'd bring up the one point that keeps bothering me from last nights episode.

I would've posted over in the general discussion thread for this episode, but it's already so long I thought it'd get lost. But I apologize in advance if this has already been brought up/discussed.

When Brennan receives the mandible, she looks at it, and even puts it under the microscope. How could she have possibly missed during that time that all the teeth were of the same type? And/or that the teeth would've been slightly different colors (based on the skulls we see near the end of the episode)?

Anyone have any idea how she missed that?

Welcome akajb!

And that is a valid point! I will have to re-watch the epi and pay closer attention! but I think maybe she would have to put magnify the image to really see the same pattern (which she did later on). So I am guessing Zach did the initial examination and when he went to the hospital she got to revise his results?

Did I made sense?

okay, I hope I remember it correctly:
the mandible that was sent to her was a mandible on which gormogon had left scrapes.... she just looked at it for a few moments... and later zach clarified that the scrapings had been made by artificial teeth, which - as we later find out - is not true.

the mandible was not the lower part of gormo's horror-teeth, it was just a bone on which he had left scrapings (okay... ew, anybody?)

and last but not least:

WELCOME, akajb!

Ah, CheeseBK, I think you got what I missed.

You're right, it's the scrapings on the mandible that are the important part, not the mandible itself. I just re-watched the part where you realizes he was wrong. Of course, they don't show the entire time she's looking at the mandible, but she seems to realize quickly that the scrapings are not made by dentures.

However, my new question is, that the guy who was gormagon, had all the canines that were missing as his own teeth, right? Or at the least had shaped all of his teeth to appear like canines. In that case, wouldn't the scrapings have a very distinct pattern against the bone compared to one made by people with normal teeth? All those pointy tips should make a difference.

Hmm... there's still something about the whole teeth issue that bothers me

akajb, well, I thought that too, to be honest..... usually brennan should have realised that instantly, right.... I mean that the scrapings were made only by canines (they used the canines, right?)? but maybe she just didn't want to believe zach could have lied.... hence the hesistance?

I think Gormo-ew had pulled out his teeth for the bomb in knight on the grid, right? then zach pieced together the new set of teeth for him - et voilá......

of course that is MAJORLY EW and totally gory and ..... I think you get the picture.... I mean what kind of sicko would want the teeth of dead people in his mouth?
silly me, even asking that question.... a sicko that peels off the human flesh off the bone..... *puke* .... guess filling you mouth with teeth of various dead people isn't that far off then....
